Independent Study Remediation Policy

Eleanor Mann School of Nursing (EMSON) students are to enroll in an Independent Study course for remediation purposes the semester following obtaining a standardized test score below the national average on any standardized ATI test given throughout the nursing program. Students and assigned faculty collaborate on the study objectives and develop a remediation independent study contract.  Independent study for remediation guidelines include:

1. An individualized remediation learning contract must be submitted during the first week of the independent study course.

2. Regular meetings with the faculty and student to direct, teach, evaluate, and/or supervise the independent study according to the agreed upon contract.

3. Evaluation of the independent study outcomes submitted within the specified academic timeframes.

4. Satisfactory completion of the course learning contract, with the student completing all conditions of the contract including acceptable performance level within the timeframe specified.

5. The two "D" policy includes only pre-requisite nursing courses and nursing courses.  Independent study is NOT counted in two "D" policy.

Credit for completing Independent study is dependent on passing ATI(s) and meeting learning contract. A mark of "CR" (credit) will be given with no grade points earned. A final grade of "F" shall be assigned to students who fail to complete the terms of their remediation contract. Progress is not impeded if the student fails the ATI. However, students MUST pass each of the standardized ATI tests by scoring at or above the national mean prior to taking RN Assessment.
