Nursing Educators, Students Present Research

Janet Bingle, network chief nursing officer for Community Health Network in Indiana, outlined the clinical nurse specialist's role in a keynote address during a nursing research conference April 10 sponsored by the University of Arkansas Eleanor Mann School of Nursing. The nursing school began offering a master of science in nursing for clinical nurse specialists in medical-surgical nursing with a nurse educator option last fall.

Bingle's address was followed by several concurrent sessions featuring research by professionals and students in the nursing field. About 200 nurses and nursing students attended the 15th annual Nursing Excellence in Research and Practice conference at the Jones Center for Families in Springdale.

The following are two of the presentations given at the conference:

"What Attracts Nurses to Becoming Nursing Educators, and What Keeps Them in Education?" presented by Jane D. Evans, RN, BSN, MHA, University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences

"Effect of Telemedicine on Patients' Diagnosis and Treatment," presented by Cathy Irwin, PhD, RN, research associate, University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, Rural Hospital Program. The original source and published manuscript for this study presentation is acknowledged as follows: "Reproduced from the Journal of Telemedicine and Telecare 2006; 12:39-43, with permission from the Royal Society of Medicine Press, London."
